One of the craziest oddities of the Englishlanguage is that there are so many different collective nouns that all mean "group" but which are specific to what particular thing there is a group of : a herd of elephants, a crowd of people, a box of crayons, a pad of paper, etc. There is great diversity of collective nouns associated with animals, from a sleuth of bears to a murder of crows. The following is a list of the correct terms to describe groups of various types of animals.

herd of antelope army of ants colony of ants swarm of ants shrewdness of apes flange of baboons congress of baboons tribe of baboons culture of bacteria etc, etc, etc, à : 
 
 Pas plus facile en français, voici quelques exemples d’une multitude de mots à mémoriser :

cerfs : une harde (troupeau de ruminants sauvages)
chiens de chasse  : une meute
éléphants : un troupeau
fourmis :une fourmilière, une colonie 
guêpes : un nid, un guêpier
artistes d’une même tendance : uneécole
avocats : un cabinet
chanteurs : un chœur, une chorale, un groupe
citoyens : un état, une nation, un peuple
clients  : une affluence, une clientèle, un public loups : une meute
manchots : une colonie
petits poissons  : frai, un fretin
  • poissons (sardines, thons) : un banc
  • acteurs : une compagnie, une troupe
    adhérents : une amicale, une association, un parti, un syndicat  
    alpinistes : une caravane
    communes en relation directe avec une grande ville : une banlieue
    convives : une tablée
