I agree with Demian.

However, you should be wary when you say that the french senate is mainly socialist, because it has never been since the inception of the 5th Republic, although the Assemblée Nationale has been. In fact, the senate has always been ultra conservative.

Moreover, socialists in France are not the equivalent of Fidel Castro, but look rather like left leaning american democrats.

On the subject of religion, people who wish to practice their beliefs can do so without persecution, although we have a strong antireligious feeling in France. Then you have to have in mind that catholic conservatives in France have little to do with the teachings of Jesus, something that does not endear them to me, a practicing roman catholic.

But then, being a moderate is to accept to stand in the crossfire.
