@Claire,

I am going to give you my opinion about the purpose of life and how I try to live my life. Just to give you the context, I was raised catholic and stopped believing in God when my grandfather died of cancer when I was 13, I am also a scientist.

I don’t mind people believing in God, Allah, Buddha...if it makes their life better, I just mind if they try to impose their views on me and society like for example gays shouldn’t be allowed to get married because God said so (to me it is just a book writen by men who said that).

I think that the purpose of life is happiness. Some people need material possessions, others are more spiritual and don’t ; it is not up to me to judge. However, we live in a society that has rules and boundaries so you have to look for happiness while respecting the right of others to do the same.

For me happiness is a mix of material and spiritual things. I love when my wife is happy, I love seeing my family and friends but I also enjoy a good meal, drinking and sometimes buying some things that are not necessarily useful like a nice computer (I am geek) or a travel to another country.

When I am tormented, I am talking to my family and friends, I don’t need to talk to a God. You have the ressources in you to overcome anything.
