@Claire hass :
2 things :
1 you are right, people should be more tolerant on forums. But there are *no* forums where everybody is tolerant, except the ones where censorship avoid conflicts.
2 the difficulty for a French person when trying to dicuss about politics with an American person, is that YES, YOU DO REFUSE TO SEE THINGS THE WAY THEY ARE IN THE USA.
When you say for example : « Many homeless are mentally ill, (schizophrenics,) alcoholics, drug addicts, etc. », you refuse to see the problems, and we cannot discuss with you.
You basically belong to these people, a majority in USA (I lived in Indiana/Kentucky, don’t tell me I’m a ’anti-américain primaire’, thx), who think that poor people are poor because they are lazy, or on drugs, or whatever... This is ****so**** wrong to say that (in the context of your beloved WW2 it is called revisionism), such contempt, such blindlessness !
You have your ideas and we should respect that, but saying people have what they deserve is so far from reality...
Did you have 9/11 because you deserved it ??? Don’t tell me this sentence is stupid, it is following the same kind of reasoning !!!!!!!!!!
In order to talk with French people, I’ll tell you the rules, very simple, if you don’t want to feel harassed :
- stop with World War 2, it is important but doesn’t give you the right to do and say anything to ’the people you saved’. You’re not better because of a war. You american always talk about WW2 when talking about nowadays politics. WW2 belongs to the past.
- don’t deny the problems of your own country.
Most poor people in the USA are not lazy, are not on drugs... Your health System is not perfect, you have more than 40% of the people who don’t have health insurance. Some people, in the USA as anywhere, have a job but live with poverty. I could continue, but as long as you say it is propaganda... Open your eyes first, I don’t pretend to know the best solutions to problems, I pretend to know what the problems are in reality. Figures prove all of what I said above, show me your own figures.
If you refuse to see the problems in your own country, and think americans having problems deserve it, then of course we are agressive with you telling us how to do in our own country !!!
- don’t think of the USA as the only possible model.
Your remarks about nudity show your tendancy to be a bit puritan (there again, I lived in Indiana, I talk about what I saw not what I’ve heard in France), while French like a bit of vulgarity sometimes.
Politics are one thing, culture an other. If you mix the two, then nobody will listen to you.
Your comments about Ségolène, are not irrelevant. Your lack of capability to understand problems even in your own country and think of USA as the only model, this is irrelevant..
YOU are the victim of propaganda, Claire, that propaganda trying to hide poverty, drugs, and other realities of ***every*** country, even USA. That propaganda is everywhere, not only Fox, but every channel, including CNN (we have it in France)...
